is sand and palm trees so much for ask for?
i spent at least 2 hours today looking up potential "honeymoon destinations." i don't like the word 'honeymoon' very much; it makes me think of that tv show and also the term "honeymoon cystitis," which is enough to get anybody in the mood.
we never vacation though. like we have never travelled anywhere exotic together, nor have we ever gone anywhere for more than a long weekend. don't get me wrong, all these rallies and going to montreal for the gp are my lifeblood. but after sweating my balls off in a heavy dress and going broke to feed each of my 100 friends 2 dixie cups of warm beer, i think i'm going to want to loaf on a beach alongside some crystal clear waters for a few days. because if we don't do it now, it will never happen. EVER. cause if you need a reason like a wedding to take a real vacation, chances are you will never get another sufficient reason again. life past 25 consists of a series of reasons to not ever do anything fun again, but at least you get to pick their names and dress them in cute outfits.
so i checked out some places that swim in my mind when i think of exotic beaches i can't afford. bora bora. fiji. the seychelles. antigua. aruba. maldives. i have to visit a tropical island before i die. and i would rather do it before i become a creaky wrinkled old bag.
these places looked pretty sweet
tahiti
fiji
seychelles
st thomas
i mean all i really want is to stay in a hut like this:

and it could be in the florida keys for all i care.
but really, is $1-2 grand a person for 7 days, including airfare, too much? it seems reasonable to me, and i'm cheap.
i can't tell you the physical reaction i get when i look at these pictures. i'm ready to quit my job and go bartend like tom cruise in cocktail, only i never would have cheated on elisabeth shue.
but seriously, how can you not want to go there?
more vacation ideas to follow, with less of the fruity cocktail umbrella-ish-ness.

Ahhh... did you look into the Dominican Republic??? I think in what they call the Punta Cana area.
Also, off season can point you in the direction of reasonable. :) Key West off season $220 a night for a suite Key West in season $500 a night for that same suite.

however, "off-season" also sometimes means "kicked off the island because of a hurricaine".
I'm just saying.
But I know what you mean - John's wanted to go to Australia, Hawaii, Greece, Africa, and somewhere else bizarre and expensive. I'm like, "if this is what you want to do, STOP INSISTING THAT WE EAT OUT EVERY NIGHT!!!" gah.
